ASP.NET Zero Expertise
Specialist development support for existing ASP.NET Zero applications, from framework upgrades and modernisation to ongoing maintenance and dedicated engineering capacity.
Existing Applications
Many ASP.NET Zero projects continue evolving long after their initial development. Framework versions change, dependencies need attention, business requirements grow and development teams change.
EKSTRUH can work with existing ASP.NET Zero solutions to assess the application, understand its current state and determine an appropriate path for upgrades, modernisation, ongoing development or support.
Following an initial technical review, we can set out what the work involves and where the practical constraints are. Whether we take a project on depends on what that review finds.
Four specialist areas for organisations that already have an ASP.NET Zero application in place.
For applications that need to move from an older ASP.NET Zero or .NET version toward a newer supported implementation.
We begin by assessing the current version, then plan the upgrade around the dependencies, customisations and front-end implementation the application actually has. Work usually covers backend upgrade work, front-end compatibility, breaking-change remediation and database migration considerations, followed by testing and a staged release plan.
Not every upgrade is a direct step. Complexity depends on the current version, the customisations in place, third-party dependencies, the front-end implementation and the overall application architecture. Some applications upgrade in one planned sequence; others are better handled in stages.
For ASP.NET Zero applications that require more than a routine framework upgrade.
This is assessment-led work. We review the application and its architecture first, then agree what genuinely needs to change — which may mean front-end modernisation, replacing ageing dependencies or legacy components, restructuring parts of the codebase where that is justified, or improving integrations and UI incrementally.
Modernisation does not automatically mean moving away from ASP.NET Zero. Where an organisation is considering ABP.IO or another destination, that is treated as one project-specific option to be evaluated, not a default recommendation. There is no universal automatic migration path between frameworks, and any such move needs its own assessment.
Ongoing engineering support for existing ASP.NET Zero applications that need maintenance, troubleshooting and continued development.
This suits teams who have an application running in production and need consistent engineering attention for it — investigating bugs, keeping frameworks and dependencies current, maintaining integrations and continuing to develop features as requirements change.
Support arrangements are agreed per application, based on its size, version and how much ongoing change it needs.
Add ASP.NET Zero development capacity to an existing project or team.
This works when the framework knowledge is the constraint rather than the direction — an upgrade that needs dedicated attention, a maintenance backlog that keeps being deferred, or continued product development alongside your own team.
Engagement details are agreed per project.
Upgrades carry real technical risk. The point of this sequence is to find that risk early, while it is still cheap to plan around, rather than during release.
Review the current application version, architecture, dependencies and customisations.
Identify upgrade requirements, compatibility risks and an appropriate sequence of work.
Update framework and application components while preserving required business functionality.
Verify affected functionality, integrations and application behaviour.
Deploy using an appropriate release approach for the project.
Address follow-up improvements and ongoing maintenance where required.
A framework upgrade is rarely just a version-number change. ASP.NET Zero applications are usually customised, and it is the customisation that determines the shape of the work.
An application may carry substantial custom business logic and modules, significant UI work, integrations with other systems, database changes, adjusted authentication configuration and a set of third-party dependencies that each have their own upgrade path.
None of that makes an upgrade unwise. It does mean the assessment stage matters: knowing what has been customised, and how far it has diverged from the framework defaults, is what makes the rest of the work predictable.
Depending on the application's version and architecture, the relevant parts of this stack will differ. ASP.NET Zero applications are not all built the same way.
Where an ASP.NET Zero application uses Angular, upgrade and modernisation work usually involves both sides of the application rather than the backend alone.
That can bring in Angular version considerations, TypeScript compatibility, front-end dependencies, the application UI, API integration between the front end and the backend, and build or configuration changes. Where the front end has fallen several versions behind, it often sets the pace for the wider upgrade.
More detail on our front-end work is on the Angular expertise page.
Some organisations reviewing the future of an existing ASP.NET Zero application are also weighing up ABP.IO or another modernisation path.
The two are related but not interchangeable, and neither is automatically the right answer for an application that is already working. A move of that kind is a project in its own right, with its own scope and technical implications — not a conversion step.
EKSTRUH can assess the existing application and help determine what an appropriate approach would actually involve, including staying on ASP.NET Zero. Our ABP.IO expertise page covers that side of the work.
